Hidden Identity
Mood Board
Brainstorm
This is a brainstorm of the indivdual animals that I have chosen to wear masks, I am planning on dressing them like this.
Ideas Sheet
My ideas had changed multiple times throughout this idea, I took multiple shoots to test out my different ideas using the masks however this idea stood out the most to me so I developed the idea.
Giacomo Favilla - 'One of Us'
Giacomo Favilla is a fashion photographer from Italy. He has created several projects of his own with the help of other designers and photographers. The theme I have chosen, Giacomo Favilla created the 'One of Us' project which mainly inspired me to go with this theme. He works with Francesca Lombardi who is a designer who designed and created the origami masks so that they show the shadows of the features with specific placing of the light for Favilla to take the photography. This project has inspired me because it is simple yet there is much work done in order to create these photographs. I am drawn to the whole project and the use of black and white and the lighting.
I like each of these photographs even though they are all similar. The whole set up of the photograph; use of the masks, the chair, the way the were dressed and how their sat really captured my attention. He's set up the light to capture the shadows that the masks create and the structural features of the models. This photograph, the mask is clearly an elephant with the trunk and the big ears. However what the model is wearing, a large coat, compliments the mask as they both similar shapes. Each model is placed in the same way, facing forward with their hands on their laps.

Cait Gibbs - 'Animal Magnetism'
Cait Gibbs took these photographs using a film camera - Lubitel camera. In these photographs, each model is wearing a different mask but doing casual things such as; having a bath, riding a bicycle, or going out with friends. She developed herself in dark room, she also wanted her models to be in a comfortable pose instead of having them in a stage manner.
Photoshoot 1
For this photo shoot, I took plain portrait pictures which I am going to further edit to get rid out her face, either by blurring, scratching it out on Photoshop or to edit it and put a block of colour over her face.
Top 2
These are both my top photographs for this photo shoot because for this experiment, I wanted the full face without any hair covering it, so I could select the whole face and change the colour of it. I have chosen my model to wear a white simple top again a white/grey background in order to keep the whole photograph simple whilst I change the colour of the face. Both of these photographs are my top two for the same reasons.

Photoshop
In this two photoshop examples, I selected around my models face excluding her hair and then selected a bright, vibrant colour to fill her face in to create a hidden identity look.
Owl and Fox - Mood Board
This mood board contains images of ideas of what I want the owl and the fox to be wearing for my shoots. I want the owl to wear a tweed blazer and waist coat whilst holding a pipe, whereas I want the fox to wear a well fitted 'sleek' suit, to make the fox look sly whilst the owl has a wiseness about them.
Photoshoot 5
In this photoshoot, I decided to start by doing the owl idea as portrait shoots, I had my model wearing a tweed coat with a bow tie.
Top Photographs
This is one of my top photographs for this photoshoot because my model was wearing one of the masks that I had bought and I had dressed them according to the ideas that I had in my brainstorm. In this photograph my model is also holding a pipe to also give the impression of an old wise owl. This is one of my top photographs because the focus is purely on the owl mask and how they are dressed, with a white background light so that there are shadows behind my model.
I plan on editing this photograph so that I turn it black and white and making it slightly grainy to go with the old fashioned effect. |

Photoshoot 3
In this photoshoot, I decided to take the model to London to get more natural photographs in front of the city. I took this around sunset therefore the sky was lit up in different colours.
Top Photographs
This is one of my top photographs from this photoshoot as I was able to capture the masks face and the models body therefore the background was out of focusing allowing us to fully focus on the subject. The background, whilst it is unfocused, has created a silhouette of the buildings.
I will edit this photograph by desaturating it and then adding a fairly high contrast to make the model stand out more than it does orignally. |
This is another one of my top photographs as this one is more natural that the other one. Also with the sun behind the model, it has highlighted the model making her stand out a lot more than with the mask alone.
I will edit this photograph in the same way that I mentioned previously - desaturating and adding a contrast. |

Photoshoot 4
This was my first photoshoot with all of my models in the area that I wanted them to be in. This was more of an experimental shoot as I was testing shutter speeds and aperture speeds in order to see how the lighting would work out as it was entirely natural light.
Top Photograph
This is one of my top photographs from all three of my family portrait shots as this photographs look as natural as it can whilst they are wearing masks, therefore this makes it a bit more creepy as they are staring at the camera.
I will edit this photograph by desaturating it, changing the contrast, adding some grain to it and then finally adding a slight sepia effect over the top. |
Photoshoot 5
In this photoshoot, I got all of my models to stand together to get the family portraits.
Top 2
This is one of my top photographs as all of my models are standing square to the camera and looking at the camera. I have got the full length of all of their bodies into the frame.
I will again edit this by desaturating it, changing the contrast, adding some grain to it and then finally adding a slight sepia effect over the top. |

Photoshoot 6
In this photo shoot, I decided to do a shoot where I took photographs of the models individually or in pairs. Some of the individual photos didn't work as well as I had hoped however the double photographs of the ones that didn't work well came out good.
Top 2
This is one of my top photographs because I was able to get good lighting across the whole of the model whilst the background was darker. Also the model is completely center of the photograph allowing us to simply focus purely on her. I have got the model to hold cup and saucer however the saucer is upside down and this adds more of a weird element to the overall photograph.
I will again edit this by desaturating it, changing the contrast, adding some grain to it and then finally adding a slight sepia effect over the top. |
Photoshoot 7
In this photoshoot, I purely aimed to have just the parents in it. Using a chair and a lion as a prop I also used an old air gun to add more character to the owls pose.
Top Photograph
This is one of my top photographs out of this photoshoot, because the models are in the centre and where the models are fairly bright, I will be able to add good contrast once I desaturate my image. Also the objects of the photograph are in height order adding height to the photograph.
I plan on desaturating this image, then editing the contrast and adding noise to the image to add more of a grain or gritty effect, I will then add a slight sepia to it. |
