Colour
In this project, I have decided to base it on portrait but have heavy amounts of make up. This also follows on from hidden identities as the idea is that makeup hides someones true look, therefore it is hidden.

Vogue Colour Up - Sebastian Kim
Sebastian Kim is a Vietnamese photographer who is based in New York. He now is represented by Management Artist. The series of photographs which inspired me was the fashion shoot for German Vogue, this was inspired by 60's fashion. To get this shoot, he worked with Katie Mossman who styled the models. Although the colour isn't based on the makeup, like I want mine to be, this photographers still inspired me to work with colour and also create a look which is based on the 80's.
Johannes Graf
Johannes Graf is a photographer based in Germany, he specialises in fashion and portrait photography. He has done multiple projects that include vivid colours and bold and out going fashion ideas. Two of his projects have inspired me to work with bright and contrasting colours. His Bonnie Strange photoshoot really inspired me because of his use of the human body and also the use of colour. Whilst he hasn't giving her vividly coloured makeup, they are still very brightly coloured photographs. Also other shoot, he has used colours to accentuate the structure of his models face and the highlights on the models clothes. He has used colour in two very different ways to create strong photographs.
This photograph taken by Johannes Graf is on of his coloured photoshoots that he has done, he has used contrasting colours to exaggerate and accentuate the cheek bones and the structure of the models face. She looks as if she is breaking or attempting to break out of a cell made of clingfilm that has tints of blues and greens which once again contrast with the orange he has used to highlight features.
This photograph is inspirational because of the set up of the photograph and the clear time spent on creating the perfect look. |
In this photograph, the model - Bonnie Strange - seems to be drinking out of, what I believe is a perfume bottle, she has disorted her arm to gain the shapes and shadows that the photographer wanted. She has been given three colours, green, yellow and pink. The bold pink stands out against the green background whilst the yellow compliments it. It is a clearly thought of photograph as the make up artist has matched it all perfectly with the top and eye shadow and the background to the bottle.

Photoshoot 1
In this photoshoot, I had my model wearing bright eye shadow with two different colours on her lips. As this was my first photoshoot, leaving the final pictures in colour, I decided to use this one as an experiment shoot with lighting in order to work out what lighting works best. I decided that clamshell lighting and butterfly lighting worked best because it highlighted the whole face, I also played around with having a light behind my model to add some shadows to the background.
Top Photographs
In this photograph, I have set up the lighting so I have got a neutral colouring across the whole of the models face, and I have This is one of my top photographs because the model has got a natural face whilst wearing extreme makeup.
I plan on experimenting with different edits to this photograph as this is my first shoot. I will exaggerate the the colours and brighten the photograph to see if I can enhance the colours. |
Photoshoot 2
In this photoshoot, I had my model wear the same eye shadow as she did before, however I decided to only use one lipstick colour - to match the most prominent eyeshadow colour. I went for blues and yellows in this photoshoot because my model had recently dyed her hair blue therefore it was still slightly green/blue afterwards. Then I had my model wearing the same red top as it contrasts the make up and also a blue top with flowers on it to match the rest of her make up. I used the same lighting set up as before as it highlighted the make up the best.
Top Photographs
This is one of my top photographs because it was an accidental shot but it worked well because she has her eyes open therefore we can see the colour of her eyes and we can also see the red of her top again the blue makeup.
I plan on editing this photograph by making the colours more vivid and potentially lightening the background therefore the whole photograph will become lighter. |
This is one of my top photgoraphs because you are able to get the fully affect of the blue that is used on her face, also the eyeshadow and lipstick compliment the colour of her eyes making them see more blue. I also like the fact that the model is staring directly down the camera and the seriousness of the models face allows you to focus on the make up.
I plan on experimenting with this photograph on photoshop, either by changing the colour of one of her eyes or both, I will make the make up seem more vivid as well. |

Photoshoot 3
In this photoshoot, I got my model to have bright eye shadow and lipstick, which contrasted each other and then clothes which once again contrasted the makeup as a whole. In this one, my model had bright pink eye shadow, bright blue lipstick, blue flared trousers and a bright red top. I also chose a model who had blonde hair because I felt it would make the make up and clothing 'pop' more with the colour. I am going to edit this photographs so that they are more vibrant.
Top 2
This is one of my top photographs from this photoshoot because the model has a genuine look of happiness on her face and is slightly messing around. I have got the red of her shirt in the photograph again the velvet blue of her trousers. You can still see the make up is bold in this photograph however.
I will edit this photograph by making the colours in it a bit more vibrant but they are already very powerful therefore I feel that I do not need to do much to the whole photograph. |
This is another one of my top photographs, because it is almost like an awkward school portrait for a year book, however the model has put a twist on it by covering her face in brightly coloured lipstick and eyeshadow.
Once again this photograph doesn't need editing much as all the colours are very vibrant anyway, however I will make them pop a bit more. |

Photoshoot 4
In this photoshoot, I changed my models top back to the blue flowery one and changed the lipstick colour to burple. I also found a fur body warmer which I got my model to wear whilst holding on to a feather duster. I felt that this added character to the photographs as she was able to hold on to them and use them as props.
Top 2
This is one of my favourite photographs out of this photoshoot because the model is wrapped in a brown fur with the feather duster above her head whilst she has her eyes shut and facing directly to the camera. You are able to see the make up entirely and the blonde hair contrasts to the browns in the fur and the feather duster.
To edit this photograph, I don't feel I need to do much to make it any different. However I will use the sponge tool to make the eye make up and lipstick a bit more vibrant. |
This is another one of my top photographs because the model is once again wrapped in the brown fur and feather duster, however the model has got her eyes open and looking away from the camera, therefore we are able to see the blue of her eyes which once again contrasts her makeup.
I will edit this in a similar way as I said to the photograph above in order to make the colours in this photograph more vibrant. |
Photoshop Tutorial
I chose not to edit these photographs that much as they already had quite bright colours to them, however I did make the makeup and eyes more vibrant to bring them out more and to show that this project is based on colour. I did a similar thing, if not the same thing, to each of the photographs I have edited below.
