Cityscapes and Landscapes
A cityscape or a landscape photograph can hide the identities of the people and animals that live in these areas as we are focusing on the surroundings and not looking into the idea that people live in these areas rather than they are built and grown.

I live in London, therefore I am going to base my city photographs on London City, I plan on doing this because it has got a lot of interesting and different styles of buildings across the city.
Landscapes
For my landscape photographs, I am planning on taking most of them whilst I am away in France. I am going to use the Alps as my landscape in order to get the style and type of photograph I want.
Martin Henson
Martin Henson is an English based landscape photographer. The series of landscape photos that he takes are predominantly in black and white and has edited them to create the contrast by adjusting the levels on Photoshop. His series of landscape photography has inspired me to work in black and white with landscape photographs because of the eeriness that he is able to create in his work. The photographs where there is sun breaking through things such as the clouds of leaves on the trees.
The subject of this photograph is the tree with the sunlight breaking through it. Martin Henson has created this photograph in black and white and adjusted the levels to get this technique perfected to how he wants it. Although this isn't my favourite piece of work that he has created because of the placement of the tree, it is still inspiring of how you can create an atmosphere with not much other than the natural daylight and a tree.

Eduard Gordeev
Eduard Gordeev is a Russian photographer who's work looks like oil paintings. He has inspired me because of the fairly vibrant colours that he still manages to capture although he is taking them through a window of some sort. This photographer captured my attention because of the skill that he used to make this photographs look like a painting and also the subtle but strong colours such as the warmth from the street lamps and cars, also the warmth of the street during the day. Also he generally bases his work on the rain therefore a reoccurring theme is people with umbrellas - either brightly coloured or black/grey.
As the majority of his photographs are based in the city of St. Petersburg - Russia, Eduard Gordeev snaps photographs during the day and night whenever it rains and edits them in order to gain the painterly effect. The theme of this series of work is the same as it is based on the effect that rain makes through a window. The colours in this photograph are fairly warm and bold as it is night time. He has got a pinpoint as he has taken it from a slight left pointing to the end of the street and the woman in the middle kind of becomes the main subject whether she is or not. Although the photograph is taken whilst it is raining, it makes those days that you spend walking around in the rain seem worth it as he has created such a beautiful series of photographs.

photoshoot 1 - London between 4 and 7pm
For this photo-shoot, I traveled into the centre of London on a day where the sky was clear, whilst I didn't plan this, I was lucky with the weather as I was able to capture the sunset over Big Ben. I went between 1pm and 7pm so that the lighting would have some change through out the day and the sun would shine across different places over London. I chose to photograph the London Eye and Big Ben from a bridge as I could use them as my subject and place them using the rule of thirds.
In this photograph, I have captured London above the Thames River as the sun is setting. Whilst I have done this is have managed to get the buildings - Big Ben and The London Eye - as silhouettes whilst the image still has reflections of the sky shown in the river allowing the photograph to become fairly blue. Although the colours in the sky are fairly warm, the rest of it seem quite cold.
|
In this photograph, I have once again captured London across the thames at sunset, however I focused on the London Eye whilst using rule of thirds. The sun has created a haze. Whilst the Thames looks fairly blue and pleasant.
I plan on editing this image by making the colours in this photograph more vibrant, however I wont over do it as the subtle colours give the photograph an atmosphere. |
Photoshoot 2
The next couple of photo shoots that I have done, I took whilst I went away during the Christmas holidays in France - Châtel in the alps. I took photographs of the landscape around me for the whole week I was there. There are different lights because of the time of day and different weather changes.
This is one of my top photographs as I was able to capture a good range of the whole view, I capture a lot of mountain whilst still including some of the blue sky and I was able to include a ski lift that highlights the fact that this is a ski resort.
I plan on desaturating this imagine and making it quite grainy. I will also change the contrast so the image doesn't look flat. |
Photoshoot 3
Top Photograph
This is the best photograph of this photoshoot because I was able to make the whole photograph focused. I was able to get a good amount of mountain in the view as well as the sky. Whereas in the other photographs there were road barriers of the picture wasn't in focus.
I have multiple was I could edit this picture as I could crop it and make it seem like a panorama, or I could desaturate it and make it contrasted and grainy. |
Photoshop
For this Photoshop experiment, I purely just cropped the photograph to make it a skyline photo with the sky because the main subject whilst the rest of the landscape was minimal. I adjusted the contrast in this ever so slightly to bring out the colours in it more but I didn't want to over do it as the colours changed too much when I did.
Photoshoot 4
Top Photograph
This is one of my top photographs, because I captured this village from the other side of a mountain and it had a thin layer of snow covering it, to me the snow looked like spider webs. I Also like how the house look like a miniature village.
I plan on editing this image by cropping it and desaturating it. Once I have done that I will add some noise to make the image seem gritty. |
Photoshoot 5
Top Photographs
This is another one of my top photographs. This is due to the fact that the three trees have become silhouettes against the hazy, mountain filled background. All of these images have an atmosphere in them from the haze.
I plan on desaturating and cropping any unwanted parts from this photograph, I will then add some contrast to it to unflatten it. |
In this photograph, it is one of the top ones out of this shoot as I was able to get the depth of the mountains going towards one point. and also the electrical posts all lead to that point also. There is a hazy atmosphere in this picture which adds more character to it. The colours in this photograph are very cold as you can tell it was either a cold winter morning or night.
I plan on desaturating this photograph and making it black and white. I will also add a bit of contrast to it as I think it will become slightly flat when desaturated. |
Photoshoot 6
In this photoshoot, I was in Greenwich but the other side of the river therefore I could get a good wide shot of the O2 arena. Whilst I was taking this photographs it was about 4:00pm therefore the sun was starting the set.
Photoshop Tutorial
This Photoshop tutorial, is an example of how I edited each of the photos below.
Photoshoot 7
I visited paris for two days and I whilst I was there I was able to go to the Eiffel Tower, Arc De Triomphe - I actually went up to the top of the Arc and got some amazing wide shots of Paris. I also visited the Louvre Museum. I was able to get some amazing photographs at different times of the day.
Top Photographs
Both of these photographs were taken at the top of the Arc De Triomphe. This shot was across looking at the Eiffel Tower. This is one of my top photographs because you can see the length of some of the main roads that run through paris and the straightness of them all.
I plan on turning this photograph black and white and making it gritty. |
This is the other photograph taken from the top of the Arc, I was standing facing towards the road that leads to the Louvre Museum and once again you can see the lengthiness of some of these streets and the width of them as you can count 8 to 10 cars across.
I will also make this photograph black and white as it already as got a haze in it which creates an atmosphere. I will make it grainy also. |
